Learn Piano Online Piano Improvisation

I once had an adult student who had no piano playing experience whatsoever prior to contacting me. He was a very polite guy
and very honest about what he wanted to achieve...

He was in the business of marketing and had a business convention of some kind coming up where he knew there would be a piano available. For reasons of his own, he had it in his mind that he wanted to be able to impress some people. What made this especially interesting was that this event was to take place in about three weeks!

Hmmm... a few ideas were bouncing back and forth agains the walls of my brain. Knowing that some teachers might frown upon such a task, I committed to help him. This was a challenge I was looking forward to...

I demonstrated a few chord concepts to him in a step by step fashion. knowing I could take nothing for granted regarding his understanding (since he had no experience). He followed the steps as I had asked. I wanted him to prove to himself that hew could, in fact, do what I was doing. Before our half hour was finished, he was impressed with himself. What's more is he wasn't just copying me... I had this guy creating his own improvisations!

He showed up for a couple more lessons to demonstrate that he had absorbed the content we discussed and that he could play it confidently. Then I never saw him again. It made sense to me. You see, he had this one goal in mind, he got the direction he wanted, he achieved what he set out to do, and that was enough for him. Perhaps he took his piano studies further later, but I have no way of knowing.

Now, if someone else was to approach me today with a similar goal in mind, what would I suggest to this person?

Without even thinking about it, I would suggest The Magic 3. This is a program that can have someone with no experience creating his or her very own improvisations within a very reasonable amount of time. If the idea of creating some sounds of your own at the piano intrigues you, I highly encourage you to become acquainted with this concept and start making some music. As you gain experience with it, your original improvisations will  become more and more interesting. There more to it than initially meets the eye.

What I showed that guy was a whole lot less than what I demonstrate in The Magic 3.

Would you consider a few weeks a reasonable amount of time for creating original improvisations of your own? If you have a little bit of fun with this every day, it's likely that it won't take you that long.

Happy improvising!

Remember...

Always...

ALWAYS...

PLAY WITH PASSION!

Musically,

Dave
