![]() Learn Piano Online Playing By Ear - The Missing Link![]() Learn Piano Online Playing by Ear Though it's true that the idea of playing by ear can seem like "magic" to those who aspire to be able to produce a tune at their fingertips on command, there really is no magic to it at all. Furthermore, you have what it takes to "do it." Here's the problem with most people (I said "most," not all): They choose not to "do it." Here's what I mean... It's one thing to know that you can take action toward achieving something. It's quite another to take action toward achieving that something. But the real problem exists between the knowing and the doing. It's the idea that the action necessary is not an exciting one... and there's no real proof that results will be obtained once that action is taken. Let me give you an example: I created a little eBook entitled: How To Play Piano In All 12 Keys Without Knowing How To Read A Note Of Music (link is here) This is a guidebook that was written with the idea that results would actually be realized by the individual who follows its "prescription." Now, it's not a book of pretty pictures and diagrams... it's a guide that, if followed in a step by step fashion, a person with no piano or musical background whatsoever can actually experience what it is like to have played in the 12 major keys and to apply the knowledge acquired to a very popular traditional song. Doing what this manual says, the reader will absolutely be given the tools necessary to play that song on the piano by ear in 12 keys. However, with some who read that guidebook, something gets in the way (by the way, if you own it and have not followed the simple step by step procedure, it's my hope that you'll reconsider once reading this). What is it that stops some of the people who own that tool from making progress? It could be a different reason for some than others. But there is one factor that affects the success of the majority, it seems... and here it is: they don't consider the rewards beyond the face value of the task. Simply put? They don't see "what's in it for them" before they go through the actual motions of following the steps. By the way, we are all like that to a point... I know it certainly applies to me in many areas of my life. I want to make it clear here that I am not "preaching." Rather, I am trying to make a difference by helping, since I can relate to this "missing link" myself. I wonder if you had the opportunity to see the original movie The Karate Kid. Daniel wanted to learn martial arts so bad, he could taste it. When Mr. Miyagi realized this inner passion, he happily took on the role of guiding Daniel to his goal. Daniel had a pretty clear picture of what he wanted to achieve in his mind. He wanted to be able to defend himself and, to go even deeper, he wanted the great feelings that go hand in hand with inner confidence. So, Mr. Miyagi set him on the path toward realizing his vision. Were the initial steps subscribed by Mr. Miyagi accepted by Daniel with enthusiasm at first? Did he see the value in what Mr. Miyagi knew to be necessary steps that Daniel needed to experience if he truly was to achieve his dream? If you haven't seen the movie, you can click here to find out Not exactly. This was not a pretty picture. After all, what did washing and waxing a car have to do with defending yourself? Surely, learning some cool "chops 'n kicks" should be a whole lot more colorful than this! Well, this is a basic law of life that applies to a whole lot more than learning karate. It seems to be human nature to want the fish without casting the line. But here's the good news... once you start seeing even just a glimpse of progress, you know something's right about all this stuff. "Maybe there's more to it than I first imagined," is a common reaction once the rewards are within sight Then what happens? The motivation to continue increases. Knowing that more rewards await, the process of doing some of those "blah" activities doesn't seem so bleak anymore. As a matter of fact, you start to welcome more of those tasks even if you don't know where they're leading to, because you have the confidence that they will, in fact, lead to somewhere! In my efforts to help you excel on your musical journey, I ask that you accept the possibility (and probability) that any learning tool you adopt has some reward(s) that might not presently meet the eye. I think this is one of the great things about learning anything, actually. Isn't the mystery of "where's this leading to?" the part that makes learning anything intriguing for all of us? “It is good to love the unknown.” - Charles Lamb Okay, let's get back to basics... Wax on... wax off... wax on... wax off... wax on... (here's how to easily turn basics into something that sounds not-so-basic : ) ) Remember... Always... ALWAYS... PLAY WITH PASSION!
