Learning your piano notes is a pretty simple accomplishment, provided you don't try to make it more challenging than it has to be. We're going to learn: 1) The actual names of the
white keys
and
black keys
on the piano keyboard
2)
How to read the grand staff
3)
The correlation between the two
- in other words, when you read the staff, you'll know what to play... This doesn't have to be all learned in a day. In addition, you don't have to wait until you learn it all before you can enjoy yourself. After all, if we're to be totally candid here, there are so many people out there who can actually play pretty well and don't know how to read music at all! (Yes, it's true) Please remember: let's make this enjoyable. This is one of those things that, once mastered (which won't take long at all), becomes second nature and you won't even have to give it any thought after that. That's why we call it mastery! As a further note, mastery comes quicker when you view the learning process as more of a journey of fun experimentation. I'm serious. I'm all for taking this in little bites. Learn a note on the staff, learn which key corresponds with it, learn another, then another... then start getting musical with what you know.
"Can I really make music with three keys on the piano?" you might be asking. Hmmmm... let me ask: can you make breakfast with just some eggs, toast, and a cup of coffee? I'll take it! While we're on the path to achieving this kind of proficiency, let's have fun with this. Gaining confidence with all this will be easy as pie.
