Does the idea of learning piano scales turn you off? If so, it sounds as though you've been listening to the opinions of the masses who were brought up either hating to practice their piano lessons or told you that learning scales is nothing more or less like the painstaking process of learning vocabulary words you have no use for. Unfortunately, because of the way they're often presented, learning piano scales is sometimes looked upon as something to avoid like bad tasting medicine. You know, "maybe it's good for me, but no thanks!" Put all that kind of thinking aside, because the approach here is nothing like that. I encourage you to explore this site with a sense of freedom, knowing that you really don't have to start in one place and proceed step by step through a bunch of stuff you don't need or want, as though struggling through a jungle of weeds that blind your vision. This site is created to stimulate your curiosity and spark your enthusiasm. I am certain that once you start getting used to the site, you will know for yourself whether or not you should be focusing on the material that's in front of you, or your should move closer to basics. I'll provide some hints regarding this as you enjoy your excursion anyhow. For example, let's say you make your way to the first lesson on the Blues Scale, and you never played a scale before in your life. In that case, I offer a suggestion that it might be helpful to check out the lesson on major scales first, and then come back. But nothing is cut in stone here, since I think you'll find your way around without a flashlight. It's my hope that you find learning piano scales with these free lessons one of the most enjoyable things to experience, as opposed to what others may have led you to believe. As a matter of fact, nothing on this site has to be a chore. Each of us, as children, had a special place we stashed those toys and other favorite goodies. Remember? When you retreated to that zone, it was like nothing else mattered, and you didn't need anyone else's company in order to lose yourself in the fun.
In my neighborhood, there's this candy store that sells nothing but candy and nuts of every variety you could think of, including the kind that bring back memories. They have candy there that I hadn't seen since I was little kid - little treasures I thought were just history. Well, when I'm in that store, time stops. The colors, shapes, variety, packaging - it's all amazing. Grab a scoop and dig in... a little of this, a little of that. Weigh it on the scale and you're good to go! If you're an adult looking to teach yourself piano, dig in. If there's a special youngster in your life that you want to give the gift of music to, there's plenty of "candy" here for you to fill your pockets up and share. So... ready to explore a few scales? Great, I'm right there with you.
