Relative Pitch
Relative Pitch is a skill possessed by musicians and non-musicians alike. Sometimes confused with perfect pitch (or absolute pitch), it is universally known to be easier to acquire - and more useful, many would say. Have you ever been able to whistle, sing, or hum a favorite tune that you've heard on radio, a CD, or other source? Then you have experienced this skill. This is enough evidence to say that you have what it takes to further develop this skill. Developing this skill happens at many different levels. A program that is designed to have you to become aware of these levels and to nurture your skill as you proceed would be most beneficial if you truly wish to play music by ear up to your potential.

A focus on this study will give you the direction and guidance so that you will "cover all the bases," so to speak. Nothing is more satisfying than being able to sit down at that piano and know what it means to be "in control" the way a musician who has honed his or her musical ears to a point where musical ideas seem to "fall off the fingertips" as if by magic.
